Library workshops

Portugal

In 2020 and 2021, Every Story Matters organized 15 workshops for librarians and teachers. In various libraries in Portugal, we focused on bibliodiversity. How can reading mediators offer a plurality of voices to their readers? What limitations do they face?

The workshops, organized by our Portuguese project partner Acesso Cultura, started with a testimony that reflected on plural representation and analyzed specific books on diversity. This was followed by a debate on the selection criteria that govern the choices of all mediators, whether they are librarians, teachers, educators, animators, or family caregivers.

The workshops were given by Andreia Brites. Being a reading mediator since 2003, Andreia believes that libraries are one of the last bastions of democracy. She is a certified trainer of teachers in the areas of reading, writing, and literature and develops sessions for the promotion of reading and books and directs reading clubs, mainly with children and young people.

Participation was free of charge upon prior registration (except in Ílhavo, where the workshop is part of the Public Territories initiative program). Below you can find the list of workshops.

"I want to express my sincere thanks for the experience and the sharing in this bibliodiverse world. The session exceeded my expectations! I just loved it.
Andreia Brites is an exceptional professional! She has got an astonishing motivation and a key that opens people's minds and makes them reflect on their perspectives and actions. Brilliant! I have already filled out the evaluation form, maximum score."

One of the sources of inspiration that is used during the workshops is the Ted Talk of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie (The Danger of a Single Story). If you haven’t already checked it out, this is your chance!
